15 Feb Refinished Farmhouse Style Dresser/Buffet

Before my second son was born, my in-laws gave me this dresser to use in the nursery. It was perfect to hold his clothes and use as a changing table. When he started rolling over and moving around a bunch, we moved his changing pad to the floor and used another dresser in his room for his clothes. I started thinking where I can use this and thought it would be a great piece for the dining room to hold table linens. It was a golden oak color from the 80’s with brass hardware.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take a very good before picture since I already took out the drawers but picture them there with brass hardware.

My original intent was to refinish the entire piece so I gave it a really good sanding. More than was necessary especially for chalk paint.

For the top, I brushed on one coat of Rust-Oleum Sunbleached stain. Then, one coat of Minwax Special Walnut. I wiped both stains off almost immediately after I applied them so I could control the intensity. Then, repeated until I got the desired look.

Next, I painted the bottom with 2 coats of Annie Sloan Pure White Chalk Paint. Once dry, I sanded it to give a distressed look.

I kept the original hardware and spray painted it with Rust-Oleum’s Oil Rubbed Bronze.

This is one of my favorite transformations. I love the updated look that a little paint can do!
