20 Dec Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree – 7 trees

Every year we pick out a real Christmas tree and this year was no different.

As I was going through old pictures, I came across some of our trees in previous years so I thought it would be fun to take a look back at each one for the last 7 years.

2010 was the first year we were married and in our first house. The house had vaulted ceilings and the cut-your-own tree farm that we went to had a fixed price for any size tree. So… we came home with the biggest tree 🙂

It’s a good thing for Walmart’s large $5 boxes of ornaments because this tree would’ve been extremely bare.

In 2011, we moved our tree to the first floor of the house which didn’t have vaulted ceilings so we chose a shorter tree. Each year, I change up our trees just a little bit. One way, I’ve always done it is by changing out the ribbon. This is a pretty budget friendly way of doing it. I usually buy my ribbon in October when Michaels has 50% off sales. Sometimes, if I time it just right, I’ll hit their additional 25% off sale which is a great deal. Otherwise, after Christmas sales are a bargain also.

You may also notice that there’s red ornaments on this tree. I also sometimes add a different color theme with the ornaments. Those $5 boxes of ornaments from Walmart are great for this and they’re shatterproof which is a bonus with kids.

The following year in 2012, our tree got even smaller. This was the first year we bought a pre-cut tree. I didn’t change up the tree too much decor-wise.

One tradition we have consistently done every year is the mixture of both colored and white lights on our trees. This is something my parents always did growing up. I love the combination. The white lights brighten up the colored. Plus, it’s a good compromise as I tend to prefer white while my husband prefers colored. 🙂

In 2013, I did a mostly red and gold theme. Gold ribbon with mostly red and gold ornaments.

In 2014, I brought back some of the blue and purple ornaments that I had in previous years and added silver beads.

2015 was the first year in our new house. The walls are a shade of blue with green and grey tones so I used some of my blue ornaments to bring out the blue. I also changed up the tree with beige and white striped ribbon.

In 2016, I went with a more neutral theme of whites and silvers.

This year, if you followed the home tour then, you saw that this was the year of green. I incorporated green ribbon and ornaments with the whites and silvers from last year.
