13 Jul Living Room Refresh Sponsored by Birch Lane
Have you ever designed a room and felt like it wasn’t what you were envisioning or not really your style? Yes, you say?! Me too! Our “formal” living room has been an ever-evolving space since we moved in 6 years ago. It’s a room that we don’t use everyday except for larger gatherings. The paint color was what I really couldn’t stand. Every time I tried to take a photo, the walls looked green when it was supposed to be grey. Here are some before pictures.
In January, with a vaccine in sight and the ability to gather again on the horizon, I decided to get this room to somewhere I felt reflected us more. I started by painting the walls white.
I know there’s a lot of mixed opinions on white walls but I think they can be very beautiful. White is bright and fresh. It doesn’t have to be boring especially when you add in warmth and varying textures in other ways like in furniture or rugs etc. It took me awhile to decide on a rug for this space but I finally settled on this jute rug which really finishes off the space.
Now that the walls were painted, I had to think about how else to get this room ready to have our family and friends over again. We were in need of some additional seating, so I found this lovely wingback chair , which Birch Lane generously provided in exchange for this sponsored post.
It’s the perfect addition to this space. I also purchased this throw pillow which matches the curtains that I already had in the room perfectly.
For this refresh, I really focused on simplifying my decor style. I wanted it to feel clean and not too cluttered. This focus on simplicity has led me to use more classic, timeless pieces.
Here’s a helpful tip in finalizing your room’s look… add fresh flowers to your space! Whether you cut them from your own garden or pick them up from your local grocery store (Trader Joe’s has the best by the way and at the best price). Fresh flowers really bring life into a space and are a perfect touch for when you have guests.
I hope you enjoyed this living room refresh!
